The “BLACKBEARD”, originally named the “CARQUINEZ”, operated just north of Oakland, CA, but a modern bridge replaced her and she, too, went on the block. The going price for Carquinez was $84,000. The vessel was towed to Mayport from California, via the Panama Canal and replaced two aging ferries, the “LAFITTE” and “MANADNOCK”, already in operation. Completed Service Life Extension Program “SLEP” in 1998.
